GLA Economy Committee report on employment of older Londoners

Wise Age gave evidence to the GLA Assembly’s Economy Committee on the financial security and employment of older Londoners. The committee has this morning produced its report which goes formally to the Mayor of London (with a response required by him to the committee by the 16 June. ).

The committee’s report has endorsed  some of the recommendations and evidence we gave about supporting older workers in London, the Mayor championing age friendly employers in London (and the GLA becoming an age friendly employer itself ), and an employers toolkit on older workers in London. Obviously the committee’s report could have gone further, but can count as a lobbying success to include in our evaluation of  the Trust for London report. This is the first time there has been this sort of policy attention given to London’s older workers which is progress !.

We will await the Mayor’s formal response and then can assess how he takes up the recommendations – and obviously publicise our response.
