WISE AGE GIVES EVIDENCE TO GLA ASSEMBLY ECONOMY COMMITTEE

Wise Age were witnesses giving evidence to the GLA Assembly Economy Committee’s inquiry on “Financial Security and Employment for older Londoners”. The committee heard from Wise Age Trustee Tim Whitaker who argued the need for the GLA to take a more strategic approach to older workers in London with more targeted employment support particularly for the “economic inactive” who want to return to work but suffer from health or other problems. Tim emphasised that the Mayor needed a campaign to publicise the positive contribution that older workers play, and also ways of combating ageism in employment which at present is the “elephant in the room” when it comes to discussions about older workers.
