The Role: Are you a community or individual giving fundraiser with outstanding relationship-building skills? Or have you previously worked in marketing, customer care or sales? If so, then you might be the person that Open Age, a charity for older people based in West London, is looking for to fill its Community Engagement and Supporter Care fundraising role.
The Candidate: The charity is looking for a person with warmth, charisma and enthusiasm. Someone prepared to treat supporters with the respect and care that they deserve, as well as possessing the communication skills and confidence to generate relationships. A real ‘people person’ this post-holder will have to be a superb multi-tasker who is highly organised, as well as having a deep passion for the cause. We are looking to hear from candidates either with fundraising experience or a customer-facing or sales background. Great administration skills and an eye for detail will also be of immense value. You will have good written correspondence skills and an ability to maintain records on CRM systems and Excel. Ideally the candidate will also have knowledge of the West London area from where most of the charity’s members and supporters live.
The Organisation: Open Age was established in 1993. We are a member-led charity providing diverse activities across London for older people. Our vision is that everyone in London aged 50 and above leads a fulfilling and joyful life. We celebrate older people and promote a positive approach to ageing. Open Age have over 5,000 active members aged 50 to 104 and we provide around 350 low-cost activities to 1,700+ people across 60 locations in central and west London each week. FUN is at the centre of Open Age’s philosophy. London is vast and so are the interests of its older citizens. Our aim is to ensure we provide something to suit everyone. Our activities fit within three broad categories – Physical Wellbeing & Fitness; Arts & Culture; and Education and Skills. We provide facilitated telephone groups for those who are housebound and unable to leave their homes as well adding (since the Pandemic) Zoom training for our members and an extremely wide range of online activities across our event programme, accessible via Zoom. To support this further we have also collaborated on a digital resource project in West London to ensure older people have all the technical help and equipment they need to lead a full and fulfilling life.
The Offer: In return for your skill and commitment we will offer you between £30,000 and £32,000 pro-rata depending on experience, plus on-costs, flexible working hours (minimum 21 hours), 3% employer pension. Training and professional development is also available to the post-holder as well as support from small charity fundraising advisors, Nova Fundraising.
The role requires some commitment to working from the office facilities Exmoor St (W10) as well as options for working from home. The role will definitely require regular travel within West London .
The role in detail: As Community Engagement and Supporter Care Manager you will be the central point of contact for all non-grant supporters of the charity, including all those who have given, or might give, to the charity. You will be tasked with the exciting purpose of providing the best possible ‘supporter care’ to the donors, charity-members, friends, families, legacy-pledgers and community organisations that donate to the charity. The role will involve both stewarding existing relationships, but also engaging with new supporters and building fundraising opportunities making the role a varied and interesting one. You will work across multiple income streams including individual giving, legacy, in-memory, fundraising with high-net worth individuals and co-ordinating events (eg the charity’s 30th Anniversary celebrations in 2022). Administration and social media promotion will also form part of this role, making for a hugely diverse working week!
